About DECISION

How DECISION works

The purpose of DECISION is to provide a platform for business owners and directors to explore the issues which really matter to them. In their own words, they can share their thoughts to move the conversation forward, offering fresh thinking for the resulting journey.

So rather than a publication (or service provider) attempting to tell them what they should and shouldn’t be doing, the usual presentation of regurgitated press releases, the announcement of this month’s award winners, the self-aggrandisement style interviews, DECISION magazine reflects the hopes and aspirations, the trials and tribulations of business owners and directors – from their perspective.

From research we identify the issues that should be addressed, and who we should be approaching to include their thoughts on the subject.

Every resulting initiative is written and put together by our own business journalists, with every interviewee receiving a draft of the text prior to publication to ensure factual accuracy.

Importantly this coverage cannot be bought. No financial contribution (whether in terms of money, advertising, or in kind) has ever been made by any individual or company appearing in any report, article or any other form of editorial in DECISION.

How then is it funded?

It’s best explained by way of example…..

Much is said about ’sustainability; a word association game would equate it to ‘environment’, a definition bandied about to such a degree that it almost makes ‘greenwashing’ legitimate. Yet initial research made it obvious that a company doing the right thing by delivering environmental benefit won’t necessarily be a sustainable business.

That’s because ‘sustainable’ could be described as the business definition of holistic, in other words being financially ‘sound’, having a sense of purpose, inclusive leadership, values which its sees as behaviours, internal/external engagement, relationship optimisation, consistency, resilience, a mindset which sees challenges as opportunities, delivering value to all stakeholders including the community.

That not only delivers a sustainable business but delivers sustainability.  All rooted in wanting to do the right thing.

Having then discovered this is a something which should be explored further and made the subject of an initiative, DECISION then researched to find the right partner (regardless of size) which wants to work further with such companies, not just because of its expertise in a particular field but because it shares a passion to move the dial, a belief that if more businesses succeed by doing the right things, the rising tide lifts all the boats.

That relationship based on shared purpose, enables DECISION to complete its research, identify the right people to tell the story, and come up with ideas to bring the initiative to life using the most appropriate media and communication channels – so it engages more hearts and minds, contributing something which is genuinely worthwhile to the business community.

First published in July 1980, DECISION is received by request on a complimentary basis by owners and directors of companies with a turnover of £3million across the south of England.

If there is a business challenge or emerging issue which you believe really matters, call or email me and let’s have an initial conversation.
